Pantoro

Pantoro – Norsmen Gold Project

Practon Group was engaged to develop a new high-voltage (HV) supply network for the start-up of the Scotia Underground Mine. Our team took on the challenge of designing and implementing a robust power solution tailored specifically to meet the operational needs of the mine.

The newly installed network consists of four 1250 kVA Aggreko generators, which deliver reliable power to the infrastructure designed and implemented by Practon Electrical. Key aspects of this project included:

Comprehensive Design and Planning:

Our engineering team conducted thorough assessments to create a power supply network capable of supporting the operational requirements of the Scotia UG Mine.

Collaboration with Industry Partners:

Through our strategic partnership with Trafindo Transformers, Practon Group was able to efficiently source and design the necessary HV transformers and supporting infrastructure, ensuring a seamless integration into the overall power network.

Installation and Commissioning:

We executed the installation process with precision, adhering to safety and quality standards while ensuring minimum disruption to the project’s timeline.

Ongoing Support and Maintenance:

Following the commissioning, we remain committed to providing ongoing support and maintenance for the HV network to guarantee its efficiency and reliability as the mine progresses through its operational phases.

This initiative reflects our commitment to advancing sustainable mining practices and our capability to deliver comprehensive electrical solutions that enhance the productivity and safety of mining operations in Western Australia.
Goldfields

Goldfields Agnew / Minetek
Twin 1500kw Primary Vent Fan Installation

Minetek

Located just 30km from Leinster, Western Australia is the Northern Norseman-Wiluna Greenstone Belt. This mining region is home to the Agnew Gold Mine, owned by the international mining corporation Gold Fields. Agnew mine houses the Waroonga and New Holland underground deposits.

As part of our commitment to enhancing operational efficiency at the Agnew Gold Mine, we undertook a comprehensive turnkey electrical installation and commissioning of a new primary ventilation fan. This critical upgrade is designed to improve airflow within the underground mines, ensuring a safe and productive working environment for all personnel.

Throughout the project, our dedicated and self-sufficient project team demonstrated exceptional expertise and collaboration. We meticulously planned and executed all site work, adhering to the scheduled project timeline and maintaining strict compliance with safety and quality standards. This included:

Assessment and Design:

Conducting a thorough assessment of existing ventilation systems and designing a solution tailored to the specific needs of the mine.

Installation:

Implementing the installation process with precision, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing mining operations.

Commissioning:

Conducting rigorous testing and commissioning of the ventilation fan, guaranteeing optimal performance and safety.

Training and Support:

Providing training for site personnel on operating the new system, as well as ongoing support to ensure its efficiency and reliability.

This project not only enhances the operational capacity of the Agnew Gold Mine but also reflects our dedication to delivering innovative and sustainable mining solutions in line with industry best practices.
Goldfields

Goldfields St Ives
Invincible

The St Ives Gold Mine, located 20 kilometres southeast of Kambalda, Western Australia, is a significant player in the gold mining industry. Acquired by Gold Fields Limited from WMC Limited in 2001, this operation has demonstrated resilience and sustained productivity over the past 24 years.

One of the latest developments at St Ives includes the Invincible underground operation, which necessitated the expertise of Practon Electrical Services. Our team was engaged to upgrade the High Voltage network, implementing an engineered solution that involved the installation of over half a kilometre of steel-wired armoured 11kV cable. This project required meticulous planning and execution to ensure both the safe lowering and support of the cable in the cased hole, as well as its routing to the surface high voltage feeders.

Key Project Highlights:

Safety Commitment:

Given the high-risk nature of this project, Practon’s project team prioritised safety by implementing a thorough risk assessment process. We fostered a culture of safety, maintaining a 110% commitment to ensuring that all safety protocols were observed throughout the project lifecycle.

Engineering Excellence:

Our engineers developed a tailored solution that addressed the unique challenges presented by the site. By utilising robust materials and advanced installation techniques, we ensured the reliability and durability of the HV network.

Collaboration with Stakeholders:

Throughout the project, we collaborated closely with Gold Fields to align our work with their operational requirements, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing mining activities. This collaboration is vital for one of the world’s largest gold producers as they aim to expand operations at St Ives Invincible in the years to come.

Safety Record:

The project was concluded without incident, underscoring Practon’s dedication to maintaining a safe working environment while delivering quality results.

As a result of this enhancement, St Ives Gold Mine is positioned to continue its successful operations well into the future, leveraging the upgraded high voltage infrastructure to support ongoing mining efforts.
